A Lived-In Look

Posted on August 6, 2018 at 4:15 PM Comments comments (0)

The English country style does not derive from the great house of the English countryside but from modest homes and bungalows that have been lived in comfortably for generationsmand are pleasantly cluttered. To re-create this style, choose cabinets with a patina of age and details such as plate racks, niches, glasss fronts. For floors, wood or matte-finish tile works well; countertops1 may be stone, solid-surfacing, or wood-any material that does not look shiny and new. The desired effect resembles an Old World kitchen, but the colors are lighter, and personal collections of English china are key.

Creating a cottage style kitchen

An amalgam of English country and Victorian bungalow, the cottage kitchen ranges from rustic to refined. An all white scheme puts the room in the refined catagory, but all the key elements of the overall style are presented - painted wood cabinets, beadboard backsplash, plate racks, and glass fronted cabinets. Other versions of a cottage kitchen might include colorful, mis-matched, and slightly worn looking cabinets and vintage furniture and accessories.

The kitchen is everybody's favorite room. No longer tucked away and cosed off from the rest of the house, it is a ftont and center space where family and friends gather to cook, eat, and entertain. It's become a designer room. Efficiency is important, of course, but today's kitchen has to look good, too. With some effort, and perhaps help from The Cabinet Store, your new or remodeled kitchen can be everything you want it to be - a warm and welcoming room where you prepare meals efficiently, spend time with your family, sit quietly to plan your day, and entertain in style.

The kitchen is the heart of the home, and appliances are the heart of the kitchen. But hold o to your hat - these days there are enough choices to make you dizzy. The first thing you'll notice is a new look. Many appliances are so sophisticated and beautifully designed that they almost qualify as furniture. Another trend - convience. you can customize equipment to suit your cooking style, mix and match fuels, order features that think for you, and save energy at the same time. Before you shop, arm yourself with a ballpark budget and a clear understanding of your needs.

Both a design element and a work surface, the countertop is an important kitchen feature. Making a choice can be difficult - all of the options are appealing, durable, and cleanable, although some are less troublesome than others. If you're a serious cook, you may want a tough surface that doesn't need alot of care. If your countertops will be a major design feature, look for material that commands attention. When you're ready to shop, remember to take cabinet and flooring samples with you.

Kitchen Layout

Available space and budget will dictate the size of your new kitchen. But you can establish an efficient layout no matter what the dimensions if you employ the work triangle-that is, place the range, refridgerator, and sink so they form the three points of a triangle and are no less than 4 and no more than 9 feet apart. Less space between the elements makes the work space too cramped; more space wastes steps, time, and energy. Traditionally, all of the layouts considered most efficient by kitchen experts were based on this work triangle. However, as kitchens have become multifunctional, new configurations may feature two or more work zones or activity centers. Choose the shape that best suits the space you have and the way you want to use it.
